Dear Clients, Customers and Suppliers:
To those of you who may not have heard yet, Brian Foster, our long time Shipper/Cold Storage Supervisor, passed away suddenly last Friday morning (May 11, 2012). Brian, and his vast knowledge & experience relating to seedling storage & shipping, will be sorely missed. We very much appreciate the many e-mails, phone calls & tokens of appreciation we have received over the past few days from our clients regarding Brian. Thank you.
Brian's Memorial Service will be held in Elks Hall on May 17, 2012 at 4:30 pm.
As of May 11, 2012, Darcy McElveny, our Quality Services Manager, has also taken over Brian’s role as our Shipper/Cold Storage Supervisor. For those of you who have not yet met Darcy, he is the newest member of our K&C Management Team, coming to us in March, 2011. He has a Bachelor of Science in Forestry Degree & has worked in the seedling nursery business since 2000 in New Brunswick, Ontario, Nevada & B.C. As part of his duties at other nurseries, he has previously been responsible for certain periods for cold storage & shipping.
Going forward, please direct all cold storage, shipping & storage/shipping scheduling enquiries/information to Darcy McElveny, with a copy to Changming Wang, our Systems Administrator / IT Manager.
Darcy can be reached at:
  • E-Mail: darcy@silviculture.com
  • Office Phone: 250-498-4974 (Ext 206)
  • Cell Phone: 250-485-8951
Changming can be reached at:
  • E-Mail: changming@silviculture.com
  • Office Phone: 250-498-4974 (Ext 208)
It would help Darcy immensely during this transitional stage, if you would all be able to do the following:
  1. As soon as possible, please confirm/send Darcy/Changming your required SU12 delivery dates, so he can develop a confirmed lifting/shipping schedule by slotting in specific clients & lift/ship volumes on specific lift/ship dates. Please note that the initially planned contractual delivery dates are useful & necessary for us to effect appropriate sowing scheduling & very preliminary lifting/shipping scheduling, but are generally inadequate for detailed final lifting/shipping scheduling. Consequently, we need the initial contractual dates confirmed or revised as soon as possible so we can do our very best to ensure you receive your 2012 summer/fall seedlings on the date(s) you require them.
  2. Regarding any relatively recent & pertinent SU/FA12 lift/ship correspondence you may have had with Brian (ie. phone calls/messages & e-mails), it would be very helpful if we could bother you to resend the correspondence to Darcy/Changming to help ensure we don’t miss anything.
  3. To minimize the potential for errors on our end, please send hard copies of your information, or follow up phone calls with a hard copy.
  4. If you are, or expect to be, looking for any SU/FA12 excess seedlings, please indicate that to Darcy/Changming as soon as possible.
  5. If it doesn’t interfere with good silviculture on your end, we would very much appreciate your extra special efforts this year to minimize as much as possible the # of scheduling changes you make &/or the # of shipments required.
  6. Please don’t be afraid to double check with Darcy to ensure we have your lift/ship instructions correct.
